Victoria-0094In 1996, Dr. Fitzgerald graduated summa cum laude from New York University (NYU) where she double majored in Psychology and Sociology and minored in Women’s Studies. While at NYU, Dr. Fitzgerald’s academic performance earned her the Founder’s Day Award, honors recognition in Psi Chi and Alpha Chi, both national merit organizations in her respective majors, as well as honorable notoriety for her research on the prosodic communication cues in patients with schizophrenia. Upon graduation from NYU, she evaluated patients for clinical drug trials pertaining to disorders of the central nervous system, depression, anxiety, panic disorder and Alzheimer’s Disease.

Dr. Fitzgerald went on to complete her doctoral education in clinical psychology at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, an institution consistently accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). While in graduate school, Dr. Fitzgerald completed training programs at both private and public hospitals including Bellevue Hospital, Manhattan Psychiatric Institute, Four Winds Hospital and North Shore LIJ Hospital. She earned Best Graduate Research Presentation for her research on cognition and communication disorders in psychotic adolescents.

Dr. Fitzgerald completed her Predoctoral Internship in neuropsychology at the prestigious Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine of NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City, which has been continuously accredited by the APA. Her focus was on the neuropsychological assessment and treatment of children and adults who were afflicted with a variety of neurological complications as a result of disease or head trauma.

Following this, she completed a two-year Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Residency at the distinguished NYU Child Study Center of NYU Langone Medical Center where she focused on pediatric neuropsychological assessment of children, teens and young adults with a variety of learning, behavioral and emotional issues. She worked closely with clinicians and researchers who were on the cutting edge of the latest developments in child psychology.

While Dr. Fitzgerald maintained her Fifth Avenue private practice in New York City, she was also employed by the Horace Mann School, a top tier New York private school, where she coordinated academic support services for students, provided counseling, and served as the Chairperson for their Disability Committee on Learning and Other Disabilities for grades K-12, including over 1,500 students. Dr. Fitzgerald also has twelve years of one-on-one tutoring experience having worked with students struggling with a variety of learning, academic, and executive functioning issues. She has published several scholarly articles in professional journals and presented at various academic conferences on topics including: neurocognitive measures in ADHD, personality assessment of adolescents, the accuracy of diagnoses in childhood, the accuracy of bipolar disorder diagnoses, detecting psychosis in children and adolescents, and medication compliance and outcomes in youth.

Dr. Fitzgerald regularly presents to numerous professional, teacher and parent groups on a variety of topics relating to learning, behavior and emotion as it connects to students’ school functioning. Since moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, her husband’s native soil, she has been busy growing her active young family, and has been deeply involved in her community.

With extensive experience in private practice, hospital, and school settings, Dr. Fitzgerald is uniquely adept at developing recommendations and devising a treatment plan for her clients that includes an understanding of multi-milieu settings and treatments. Dr. Fitzgerald aims to highlight her client’s strengths, while acknowledging their challenges, so that the most comprehensive and individualized assessment and plan for treatment is made. Her goal with each evaluation is to build each student’s confidence, while providing them insight into their challenges, a process referred to as demystification, so that they can discover who they are as a student and be in a better position to achieve their personal goals.
